I hate to be the bearer of bad news but there are only a few weeks left to summer. I know it seems like just yesterday we were celebrating our first 70° day by prematurely breaking out shorts and tank tops and making our first Rita’s Water Ice visit of the season. But hey, I’m not here to be a Debbie Downer. I’m here to urge you to get outside while you can to enjoy these last fleeting days of summer!
Move your movie night outside
Grab a blanket, snacks, and some friends, and get down to the Schuylkill Banks for a movie under the stars. Movies have been running all summer, but you still have a few chances to take advantage of this free event!
- August 7: The Princess Bride
- August 14: The Karate Kid
- August 21: Pitch Perfect
- August 28: Despicable Me 2
And, since you won’t be sitting in a theater, you won’t be tempted by the super-sized buttery popcorn and soda. Try a creative and healthy DIY popcorn recipe instead!
Walk off dinner, while you’re eating it
Yes, I know, technically Night Market isn’t a summer-only event. However, summer is the perfect time to check out Philly’s favorite street food festival. With everyone down the shore for the summer, you’ll have a much better chance of avoiding the lines at your favorite food truck. Don’t miss the next Night Market on August 14th at Lancaster Avenue and 35th Street.
Add a little sunshine to your yoga routine
Ditch the studio and head outside for a yoga session in the great outdoors. There are just a few months out of the year when the weather is nice enough to do this, so why not take advantage of it when you can? Practice your downward dog at an arboretum, on the beach, in a tree, on the water, or even at a winery! I don’t know about you, but I feel like it would be a whole lot easier to find my inner chi if I were surrounded by fresh air and Mother Nature.
