Broad Street Beats: 40 Years Running Edition

By April 3, 2019December 31st, 2020Events/Sponsorships Fitness Well-being

Every year, we release a Blue Cross Broad Street Run Beats playlist that’s compiled by members of the Blue Streaks running club. These songs help them stay motivated to keep running while they train for the big race.

This year, we wanted to try something different to celebrate 40 years of the Blue Cross Broad Street Run.

We asked the running community: What song from the last 40 years (since 1980) gets you most pumped up while you run or train?

We chose the 40 most requested songs and made the ultimate running playlist 40 years in the making.

40 Years Running to the Hits

It should come as no surprise Philadelphia runners love Rocky. Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” and the Rocky theme song “Gonna Fly Now,” which can be heard in the original film and all of the sequels in some form, were an overwhelming favorite. Runners also love Philadelphia natives, like Meek Mill (“Dreams and Nightmares”), Boyz II Men (“Motown Philly”), and Pink (“Raise Your Glass”).

The playlist spans years and genres, from Bob Seger’s “Against the Wind,” to Metallica’s “Enter Sandman,” to “The Champion” by Carrie Underwood. There is something for everyone’s musical taste.

Enjoy the sixth installment of the Broad Street Beats with this year’s 40 Years Running Edition. We hope it inspires you and keeps you motivated as you enter the final stretch of your training!
