There are lots of options for getting from point A to point B in Philly, so what makes biking such a popular choice for residents, commuters, and visitors? Maybe President John F. Kennedy said it best: “Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of riding a bike.”

If you love the #FearlessFit feeling of two-wheeling, Indego bike share offers a convenient, affordable, and healthy way to get around Philly.

It’s simple: Rent an Indego bike, go for a ride, and return it to any station in the system. You won’t have to look far because Indego continues to expand, with more than 120 Indego stations and 1,200 bikes and counting.

Tips to Ride Indego Bike Share Like a #FearlessFit Pro

Saving money is a great incentive, but biking is great for your body, too — it’s easy on your joints, increases your heart rate, and targets tough-to-tone spots like your core, legs, and glutes.

Whether you consider yourself a Tour de France contender, or the last bike you rode had a banana seat and handle-bar streamers, these riding tips will help ensure a smooth trip. If your bike skills need a tune-up, Indego offers free bike safety classes in partnership with the Bicycle Coalition of Philadelphia.

Now that you’re geared up, all you need is somewhere to go! Here are two of our top spots to ride Indego:

  • Blue Cross RiverRink — Enjoy healthy activities and entertainment, including roller skating in summer and ice skating in winter, on the Delaware River waterfront. Independence members skate for free. Indego stations within walking distance: Race Street Pier, 2nd and Market, Welcome Park NPS, and Foglietta Plaza.
  • Independence LIVE @ 1919 Market Street — Visit our community health and wellness experience center in Center City Philadelphia for weekly fitness, wellness, and healthy cooking classes, and Age Fearless programs for seniors. All are free for Independence members. Indego stations: 19th & Market and 20th & Market Streets.

Use the Indego station map to find even more great destinations — and don’t forget to wear a helmet!

My personal philosophy about health and well-being is to have simple goals and stick to them — whether it’s drinking more water, working in a few extra steps each day, or just making time to unplug. When I’m not busy writing creative content for a variety of audiences, my favorite ways to unwind include enjoying local arts and culture, reading a good book, and watching TV cooking shows.
